ANNUAL COLLECTION FOR OUR TWIN PARISH IN HAITI
THIS WEEKEND - ENVELOPES ARE PART OF SEPTEMBER PACKET
As in years past, anyone wishing to contribute toward the needs of Holy Name’s
Twin Parish in Pandiassou may do so in future weeks. The final amount shared
with Brother Francklin will be calculated by mid-November. It is always in the
Fall when the Diocese forwards to your pastor the monetary sums raised in his
appeals to given congregations throughout the diocese.
NEW OPPORTUNITY - PARISH HAITI COMMITTEE
To further enhance and support the bond with our sister Parish in Pandiasou, we
have elected to establish a new Parish Haiti Committee. This committee will meet
on a periodic basis, and working hand in hand with Kindred Journey Fund, Inc.,
will identify and implement specific local projects to benefit the peasants of
Haiti and to strengthen our commitment to their cause. An initial task will be
to examine the feasibility and minimum requirements for the establishment of
group tours for parishioners and other interested parties which would allow
people to see first-hand the tremendous daily challenges faced by the Haitian
citizenry, as well to testify to the benefits of current programs financed
through Kindred Journey. The inaugural meeting of this new committee will be
held on Monday, October 5 at 7pm in the rectory conference room. Please consider
this opportunity to offer your time and talent to this very worthwhile endeavor.
Any questions, call Doug Tusing at 472-4257.
EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS - SEPTEMBER 14TH
Monday, September 14th, the Church commemorates the Exaltation of the Holy
Cross. This feast celebrates a double anniversary: the discovery of the Lord’s
Cross by the empress, Saint Helena in 320, and the dedication of the
Constantinian basilicas at the sites of the Holy Sepulcher and of Calvary in
335. We pray for the wisdom to acknowledge the mystery of the cross on earth.
And pray to receive the gift of redemption in heaven.
YEAR FOR PRIESTS - FOSTERING A SENSE OF VOCATION
The ordination of new priests and the advancements of seminarians to future
orders is such a wonderful and fulfilling prospect for the life of the church in
our diocese and for the universal church. Vocation promotion here at Holy Name
is a priority on many levels as we see growth in the consideration of priestly
responses to God’s call. Religious communities of men and women are also excited
about the prospects for future ministries in our Catholic Church. Thankfully,
there seems to be a conscious effort among the parishioners of Holy Name Parish
to pray for vocations. Yes, we are grateful to those who from our parish have
already responded to the call of a priestly vocation, namely, Gus Lieb and Nate
Meckey with the Franciscan Community in Loretto and Lowell Jensen with the
Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico. Pray that their preparation for the priesthood
may be a valid and good experience.
FORTY HOURS DEVOTION
Three days of special prayerful devotion to the Real Presence of Jesus in the
form of Eucharistic Food are scheduled for September 27, 28 and 29. All
parishioners are encouraged to use the three days of Eucharistic Devotion to
better appreciate the incredible truth of our faith that God became a part of
the human scene.
Then Christ gifted us with His flesh to eat and His blood to drink in the
Eucharist. How wonderful that Gift!! How great that blessing!! Attend the
evening services on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Confessions will be
available on Sunday and Monday evenings. We again urge visitation by you before
the Blessed Sacrament for 30 minutes or an hour each of the three days. Fr. Paul
Robine will be the homilist the three evenings of the Forty Hours Devotions.
A Forty Hours collection envelope can be found in your September envelope
packet. Your offering for this devotional event may be deposited in the weekend
collection or at the Monday night Mass.
ALTAR SERVERS AND PROCESSION FOR FORTY HOURS SOLEMN CLOSING

church hall no later than 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening to receive instructions.

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME - TIME IS A PRICELESS GIFT
Think of time as a priceless gift: develop an awareness of its incomparable
value and examine your conscience in this light. Are you using your time
according to God’s plan, or are you throwing it away? If tomorrow were never to
dawn, what would you do for God today?
