LIFELINES
“In a striking way, we see today a heightening of the tension between our
nation’s founding principles and political reality. We see this in diminishing
respect for the inalienable right to life and in the elimination of legal
protections for those who are most vulnerable. There can be no genuine justice
in our society until the truths on which our nation was founded are more
perfectly realized in our culture and law.” (US Bishops, Living the Gospel of
Life, 1998, n. 14).
YEAR FOR PRIESTS
“Were we to fully realize what a priest is on earth, we would die: not of
fright, but of love...Without the priest, the passion and death of our Lord
would be of no avail. It is the priest who continues the work of redemption on
earth...What use would be a house filled with gold, were there no one to open
its door? The priest holds the key to the treasures of heaven: it is he who
opens the door: he is the steward of the good Lord; the administrator of
goods...The priest is not a priest for himself, he is a priest for you.” - St.
John Vianney
