BULLETIN NEWS
SOLEMNITY OF THE HOLY TRINITY
Believe that you can enter into a personal relationship with each of the Divine Persons and make this profound mystery come alive in your daily lives.
To the Father we ascribe works of power and speak of Him as the Author of Creation. He not only created us and keeps us in existence by His creative act which is continuous, but also re-created us by sending His only-begotten Son into the world.
To the Son we assign our redemption, since He alone became incarnate - He alone lived, suffered, died, rose and ascended, because He alone became man.
To the Spirit we attribute the divine blessings we receive, whether from the Mass, the Sacraments, through prayer or good works. We ascribe these to the Spirit, since He is the mutual love of the Father and Son, and divine blessings are gifts of love.
MAY 31ST - FEAST OF THE VISITATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
The FEAST of the VISITATION, which we celebrate this Monday, commemorates the visit the Blessed Virgin Mary made to her relative, Elizabeth. At the time of her visit, both women were pregnant with remarkable children. The Gospel for this feast tells us that Elizabeth, upon hearing Mary’s greeting was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out to Mary, calling her the most blessed among women. Elizabeth questioned how this privilege of Mary’s visit happened to her. Mary’s response to Elizabeth’s joy was the beautiful prayer flowing from the lips of Mary, known to us as the Magnificat. You too can honor Mary on this day by your attendance at the 9:00AM Mass this Monday.

MEMORIAL DAY
National customs can change with the times and needs of the people. But there is one custom, a very precious one, that should not be changed. That is, the day set aside by our government to honor all those who have given their lives in the service of our country - Memorial Day. On this day we are not celebrating war. We are remembering that when it was necessary to fight to preserve our freedom there were those who gave their lives to keep us free. Gratitude and prayers for these veterans is extended again this Memorial Day 2010.

HOLY NAME CEMETERIES
Parishioners can be proud of the appearances of both parish cemeteries. Maintenance personnel are to be commended for their solicitous care of these sacred acres of burial ground.
There will be no Field Mass at the cemetery site this year. Plan to attend the 9:00AM Mass in church on Monday.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL - GOAL $90,794.00
To date, 16% of parishioners have contributed to the Annual Catholic Appeal.. This is our “Annual Catholic Opportunity” for building up God’s kingdom through the two dozen ministries of our Local Church. To arrive at our parish Goal, I am asking each family to make a pledge of $75.00. I suggest that you spread your payments over a three-month period if that would be to your convenience. There are those with the financial ability to contribute larger donations. All Holy Name families are requested to contribute their fair share in order to reach this assigned Goal.
Our goal this year is to achieve participation from every parishioner Your participation is vital to the success of the ACA not only for these ministries, but for our own parish as well. Please make a gift that reflects your gratitude for God’s incredible blessings. Join me in returning your completed pledge card by placing it in the collection basket within the next week. If you are unable to make a financial gift, please return your pledge card indicating that; we will see that you do not receive a second request.

CATHOLIC MENS CONFERENCE
The 2010 Conference, entitled “Men of God - Men of Virtue” is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2010 at St. Francis University in Loretto. Speakers this year include Richard Lane, Fr. Brian Cavanaugh and Fr. Paul Robine. Each will offer talks of personal testimony to their failures, successes, and richness of their journeys through life - sometimes in harmony with God, other times in desperate search of god’s presence. The day concludes with the Celebration of Mass by Bishop Joseph V. Adamec. We encourage the men of Holy Name, young and old, to reserve this date on your June calendar. Brochures can be found at all church entrances.

OUR LADY'S MONTH
The month of May has always and ever awakened in the hearts of Catholic women and men something beautiful and sublime. Even nature bursts forth in bloom having relaxed its cold grasp upon the forces within its bosom to give new life and beauty to the world about us.
There seems to be a rejuvenation or spirit with us and as though we were little children again, in our spiritual lives, we turn to our Mother. We pray fervently that this blessed month will lift our hearts and thoughts to her who is our great Mediatrix before the throne of God.
Catholics give Mary a place as God himself has given to her beyond and above all created individuals because she was chosen by God to be without sin. She was the instrument by which Christ became human.
That is why we honor our Blessed Lady! This is why we are so devotionally proud of her! She was one of us and in her we are all exalted and lifted up because she who was of the human family was without sin. So then we ask you to join with us in the glorious Marian hymns during the month of May, filling our souls with love for her who is "our fallen nature's solitary boast." In honoring her we come closer to Jesus, Her Divine Son, our God and Risen Savior.

JUNE 4-5-6

One of the Main features of our 49th Annual Festival is the Big Money Raffle. We place the responsibility on each family belonging to Holy Name Parish to return at least one $20.00 book of chances. This unique feature will cement the success of the Annual Festival if each family cooperates. The drawing for over $4,000 in prize money is scheduled for 10:00 PM next Sunday. Please return all raffle tickets to the booth at the festival or in the collection basket next weekend.

DINNERS: Our parish stands on its fine record of both generous portions of fine food and excellent service. Publicize and patronize the dinners. Those buying take out dinners will use the same tunnel entrance as used by all other dinner patrons but will be ushered into a separate line, once inside the hall. TURKEY DINNERS will be served Sunday from 11:30 AM until 6:00 PM, and HAM DINNERS from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Adults $7.00, children $3.50. PLAN TO BRING THE FAMILY! 49TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL

Holy Name Parish has established an excellent reputation as a sponsor for Festival foods and family attractions and entertainment. The 2010 "presentation" will not disappoint anyone. Much planning and talent sharing over the course of months have been extended by scores of parishioners.
Now is the moment for the entire parish to take ownership of this annual parish event. Muscle, talent and patronage need be generously shared with your parish. Truly this is a call to scriptural stewardship, an invitation to share time, talent and material goods with Holy Name.
Please share the news of this Festival with out-of-town folk. Patronize the Friday and Sunday Dinners!!!

FESTIVAL NEWS

Observations concerning the Annual Festival scheduled but one week from now:
RAFFLE: extra books of chances are available at the rectory. Let the secretary know if you need an extra book or two. Return sold raffle books of chances to the rectory during this week or to the Raffle Booth at the Festival.
FRUIT DONATIONS/CUTTING: Anyone wishing to donate fruit (watermelons, cantaloupe, strawberries or grapes) for the Fruit Cup Booth is asked to drop off their donations in the church hall before June 3rd. Anyone wishing to help cut fruit is asked to come to the Faculty Dining Room in the Church Hall on Thursday evening at 7:00PM.
REFRESHMENT STAND/CUTTING OF PEPPERS AND ONIONS - anyone interested in helping to cut up the peppers and onions for the refreshment stand are asked to report to the church hall on Thursday evening at 6:00PM.
BASKET COMMITTEE NEWS - The parishioners of Holy Name will be astounded when they see the large assortment of beautiful baskets we currently have! They are SPECTACULAR! Please have any baskets in AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can complete all of the work necessary to prepare them for display. Chances will again this year be 3 for $1.00, 15 for $5.00 and 40 for $10.00. In addition, this year we are selling chances on a Kenmore gas grill, 3 burners, donated by Ebensburg Home Town Sears, Mark LaMantia; along with a $50.00 gift certificate to Smithmyer’s Superette in Loretto. All tickets will be sold until Sunday evening when we will begin to pull the winners for the baskets. If you are not present at the time the tickets are pulled, you will be called on Monday or Tuesday to come and pick up your basket. We will not be calling Sunday evening because of the amount of time required to pull all of the winning tickets. Winners will be listed about 9:00 to 9:30 PM. Again, if you do not come to see the Basket Tent, you will be missing something unique! AND, probably the most important thing is the THANK YOU that all participating and generous parishioners deserve. Holy Name Church is blessed to have such generous parishioners!
NEW FEATURE TO SATURDAY FESTIVAL MATINEE - The Saturday Matinee this year will feature Dennie Huber - magician/balloon artist from 1:00-4:00PM. Dennie’s appearance at the Festival will include a magic show at 1:30PM. Dennie guarantees “there’s something for everyone” and “that there is never a dull moment.” His reputation for multiple balloon creations, and his wacky balloon character hats are a must to see and receive. His balloon characters and his magic show are both free.
