BULLETIN NEWS
PENTECOST
Pentecost is the birthday of the Church and the birthday of every Christian in whom the Holy Spirit dwells by faith through Baptism. Pentecost means the “fiftieth day.” The seven weeks of Easter time come to a glorious climax today in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, described in spectacular terms of mighty winds and searing flames. The Apostles immediately preach the Good News of salvation and each one hears the marvels of God in his own language. The Spirit also speaks a language that each one of us can understand and has a personal message for us.
The Holy Spirit changed ignorant men into discerning men: Peter, the fisherman, became Peter the preacher and spokesman for the Gospel. The Holy Spirit changed timid people into bold people: The disciples were in hiding for their lives; yet ultimately spoke out boldly in the power of the Spirit. Each was willing to suffer death rather than deny the saving message.
Pentecost is not a once-for-all event. Now that the Lord Jesus is enthroned at the right hand of the Father, the Holy Spirit carries forward God’s plan of salvation for mankind. No one baptized in the name of the Holy Trinity is without the Spirit. The Holy Spirit recognizes no elitism among the followers of Christ. As the Son was sent into the world to redeem it, so the Church is sent. As the Church is sent, so is each member of the Church. The mission of the Church is the mission of every Christian, that is, to proclaim God’s Kingdom and give witness to the Kingdom in daily life.

PENTECOST PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Come, Holy Spirit: replace the tension within us with a holy relaxation, the turbulence within us with a sacred calmness. Replace the anxiety within us with a quiet confidence; the fear within us with a stronger faith. Replace any bitterness with the sweetness of your grace; any darkness with your gentle light. Replace the coldness within us with your loving warmth; replace the winter within us with your eternal spring. Come Holy Spirit, fill our emptiness with the fire of your love. Help us to see ourselves as you see us, that we may one day see you even as you have promised. We make this prayer in gratitude and hope. Amen.

FINANCIAL GENEROSITY TO HAITI
How prayerfully grateful I remain for the ongoing generosity being directed toward our Haitian brothers and sisters. Your compassionate understanding touches my heart deeply. As of May 17th, $321,548.79 has been deposited in the Kindred Journey account. We are pleased to report that our Elementary CCD students raised $745.00 in support of the nutritional programs in the Pandiassou region where our Twin Parish is located. Believe that recovery efforts from the January 12th earthquake will be ongoing for a score of years or more. May our commitment to the poorest of the poor in this Western Hemisphere remain a long term one. Experience in your heart a word of gratitude from Jesus, who reminds you that your outreach to the poor is an outreach to Himself.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL - GOAL $90,794.00
To date, 14% of parishioners have contributed to the Annual Catholic Appeal.. This is our “Annual Catholic Opportunity” for building up God’s kingdom through the two dozen ministries of our Local Church. To arrive at our parish Goal, I am asking each family to make a pledge of $75.00. I suggest that you spread your payments over a three-month period if that would be to your convenience. There are those with the financial ability to contribute larger donations. All Holy Name families are requested to contribute their fair share in order to reach this assigned Goal.
Our goal this year is to achieve participation from every parishioner Your participation is vital to the success of the ACA not only for these ministries, but for our own parish as well. Please make a gift that reflects your gratitude for God’s incredible blessings. Join me in returning your completed pledge card by placing it in the collection basket within the next week. If you are unable to make a financial gift, please return your pledge card indicating that; we will see that you do not receive a second request.

CATHOLIC MENS CONFERENCE
The 2010 Conference, entitled “Men of God - Men of Virtue” is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2010 at St. Francis University in Loretto. Speakers this year include Richard Lane, Fr. Brian Cavanaugh and Fr. Paul Robine. Each will offer talks of personal testimony to their failures, successes, and richness of their journeys through life - sometimes in harmony with God, other times in desperate search of god’s presence. The day concludes with the Celebration of Mass by Bishop Joseph V. Adamec. We encourage the men of Holy Name, young and old, to reserve this date on your June calendar. Brochures can be found at all church entrances.

CONFIRMATION TEAM THANKS YOU
The Confirmation team would like to thank all those who volunteered at this year's Confirmation. Our hope is that the newly anointed realize the great grace that they have received through the sacrament of Confirmation. Also that they let the Holy Spirt speak to them and guide them for the rest of their lives. There are thousands of ways that God can work through you, in our church and community. If you need more information contact Tom Deskevich at 472-5903. Come Holy Spirit!

OUR LADY'S MONTH
The month of May has always and ever awakened in the hearts of Catholic women and men something beautiful and sublime. Even nature bursts forth in bloom having relaxed its cold grasp upon the forces within its bosom to give new life and beauty to the world about us.
There seems to be a rejuvenation or spirit with us and as though we were little children again, in our spiritual lives, we turn to our Mother. We pray fervently that this blessed month will lift our hearts and thoughts to her who is our great Mediatrix before the throne of God.
Catholics give Mary a place as God himself has given to her beyond and above all created individuals because she was chosen by God to be without sin. She was the instrument by which Christ became human.
That is why we honor our Blessed Lady! This is why we are so devotionally proud of her! She was one of us and in her we are all exalted and lifted up because she who was of the human family was without sin. So then we ask you to join with us in the glorious Marian hymns during the month of May, filling our souls with love for her who is "our fallen nature's solitary boast." In honoring her we come closer to Jesus, Her Divine Son, our God and Risen Savior.
