BULLETIN NEWS

ASCENSION THURSDAY - MAY 13
Forty days after His Resurrection from death, Jesus returned to His Father in Heaven, as the apostles watched. But He was not abandoning them or us. He had already made provisions to be physically and sacramentally present on earth for all time in the Holy Eucharist. And He would continue to teach and guide us through the church He established. And after returning to Heaven, He would send the Holy Spirit to enlighten, guide, and strengthen us in accepting and living His Teachings. Jesus ascended into Heaven, but he is still very much present among us today - but we can only “see” him by faith. If we keep that Faith viable and strong, and practice it faithfully, then we also will be eligible for our place in Heaven that Jesus has gone there to prepare for us.
As Catholics, our obligation to attend Mass on Thursday is the same as it is on a Sunday. To deliberately miss Mass without a good reason is a serious sin of neglect. Check the Mass schedule for the time of Masses for Ascension Thursday.

CATHOLIC UPDATE: MARY, MOTHER OF GOD and OUR MOTHER
(On Magazine Racks) At the annunciation of the Angel Gabriel, Mary gave Jesus to the world through God’s grace. On the cross, Jesus gave Mary to the world. Speaking to his beloved disciple, Jesus said: “Behold, your mother” (Jn 19:27). Mary’s motherhood is a reflection of God’s divine fatherhood. Whatever would make God seem distant, aloof or unapproachable is overcome in a mother. And what a mother Mary is! During this month of May, we honor Mary and we celebrate Mother’s Day. This article helps us appreciate both gifts: the gift of human life imparted by our earthly mothers, and the gift of spiritual life mediated through our mother Mary, Mother of Divine Grace.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL - GOAL $90,794.00
To date, 7% of parishioners have contributed to the Annual Catholic Appeal.. This is our “Annual Catholic Opportunity” for building up God’s kingdom through the two dozen ministries of our Local Church. To arrive at our parish Goal, I am asking each family to make a pledge of $75.00. I suggest that you spread your payments over a three-month period if that would be to your convenience. There are those with the financial ability to contribute larger donations. All Holy Name families are requested to contribute their fair share in order to reach this assigned Goal.
Our goal this year is to achieve participation from every parishioner Your participation is vital to the success of the ACA not only for these ministries, but for our own parish as well. Please make a gift that reflects your gratitude for God’s incredible blessings. Join me in returning your completed pledge card by placing it in the collection basket within the next week. If you are unable to make a financial gift, please return your pledge card indicating that; we will see that you do not receive a second request.

INVOICE - BILLS PAYABLE - ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
Each month and each week scores of Bills Payable for salaries, utilities, supplies, etc. arrive at the pastor’s desk for immediate attention. Every May becomes a Season of Stewardship in behalf of our diocese. For the varied programs provided by the diocese, it depends upon parishes as benefactors in support of these diocesan activities. Yes, an assigned monetary Goal is billed to each parish, that Goal being a percentage of the local church’s income. That assigned parish Goal becomes a Bills Payable, an Invoice expected to be honored by each church Community throughout the eight county region of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. Please be generous in helping Holy Name to honor its share of diocesan responsibilities.

2010 PARISH CASE
With the price of electricity increasing January 2011, a major project involving church lighting is our 2010 PARISH CASE. This will be the first updating of the higher ceiling fixtures since the construction of the church in 1967. To save future costs this Parish Case project is being considered a mandate. The cost of this project is yet to be determined but we know it will be in the range of tens of thousands of dollars.
Your financial commitment to the Parish Case with contribution made payable to Holy Name Church can be placed in the envelope marked “Parish Case” in the mailing you will receive this week and returned via the collection basket at your earliest convenience. ANY DONATIONS PLACED IN THE PARISH CASE ENVELOPE WILL STAY WITH THE PARISH; DO NOT USE THE PARISH CASE ENVELOPE FOR YOUR DIOCESAN APPEAL CONTRIBUTION. If you have questions please contact the parish secretary before submitting your contributions.

MOTHER'S DAY
Today we salute all our mothers and the Queen of all mothers, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother. God did something good when he inspired man to set aside a particular day as Mother's Day. In establishing a Mother's Day, we second the lead of God Himself in according to the mother of a family a position that can be taken by no one except her who is mother!!
Mother and family go together. We do not think of one without the other. Both are so fundamental to society. To salute mother and family, to preserve their position, and dignity, to defend their purity and honor, to safeguard their nature, to maintain their ultimate spiritual destiny in the face of materialistic attacks of the world, to do these things is indeed to praise God and, with Him, all our mothers, and the Virgin Mother as our Queen.
Let mothers be what God intended them to be. Let us honor, respect, love and obey our mothers as God intended that we should. Let us not desecrate the name of Mother. Let us not tear down her position of dignity and honor. Let us recognize her true love and give a true love in return.
It is Mother's Day. Let it be a day of sentiment, yes. But let it be a day of prayer for their intentions that God will bless our mothers as only He can!!! May Mary, the Mother of Jesus, be a close spiritual friend of all mothers!!
A Blessed and Happy Mother's Day!

OUR LADY'S MONTH
The month of May has always and ever awakened in the hearts of Catholic women and men something beautiful and sublime. Even nature bursts forth in bloom having relaxed its cold grasp upon the forces within its bosom to give new life and beauty to the world about us.
There seems to be a rejuvenation or spirit with us and as though we were little children again, in our spiritual lives, we turn to our Mother. We pray fervently that this blessed month will lift our hearts and thoughts to her who is our great Mediatrix before the throne of God.
Catholics give Mary a place as God himself has given to her beyond and above all created individuals because she was chosen by God to be without sin. She was the instrument by which Christ became human.
That is why we honor our Blessed Lady! This is why we are so devotionally proud of her! She was one of us and in her we are all exalted and lifted up because she who was of the human family was without sin. So then we ask you to join with us in the glorious Marian hymns during the month of May, filling our souls with love for her who is "our fallen nature's solitary boast." In honoring her we come closer to Jesus, Her Divine Son, our God and Risen Savior.
