BULLETIN NEWS

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
There has been an increase in the number of people seeking the sacrament of Reconciliation. It is true that some individuals find Confession intimidating. So many make excuses that they never do anything bad enough to confess. The sacrament of Reconciliation is a fundamental part of a Catholic spiritual life. We all need to confess our sinfulness of whatever degree because it hurts our relationship with God. Continuing conversion is a process that remains with us until the moment of death. Perfection is elusive. The confession of sins on a regular basis is the spiritual support needed to climb that ladder to perfection, strengthening one’s relation with the Lord day by day, month by month, and year by year!!!
You will notice in the Holy Week schedule that Confessions will be heard after ALL Masses on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. A special grace-filled opportunity for Confession is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM. That evening, at a Penance Service, at least ten priests will be present hearing the confessions of parishioners who need the cleansing graces of the Sacrament of Penance. The encounter is always one of spiritual healing.

EASTER GENEROSITY
There are special Feast Days when your church requests a most generous contribution to her immediate fiscal needs. Easter is one of those opportunities when you are asked to consider your relationship to His Church and to support its many programs. There is a false impression that since Holy Name is a large congregation, it has a reservoir of finances at its disposal, monies for any and all programs. Not so !!! Its large size dictates larger proportional responsibilities for its own needs as well as larger financial contributions for the support of other church needs. We are sincerely grateful to parishioners for their ongoing support of this venerable parish. Those who are able are requested to contribute $40.00 to Holy Name at Easter. Be a generous steward!!!

MORNING PRAYER
During the Triduum, there is no morning Mass on Holy Thursday, Good Friday or Holy Saturday. Rather, all are invited to attend Morning Prayer or Lauds, celebrated together at 8AM. Thank you to Patty Berkebile, Janice Noonan and Millie Bodenschatz for offering to serve as prayer leaders.

HOLY WEEK AT HOLY NAME
A quote from Vatican Council II Constitution on the Liturgy will set the tone for each one of us as we permit ourselves to be thrust into the sacred mysteries which we commemorate this week. "The Liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time, it is the fountain from which her power flows. For the goal of apostolic works is that all who are made sons and daughters of God by faith and baptism should come together to praise God in the midst of His church, to take part in her sacrifice and to eat the Lord's Supper." And therefore the following considerations:

1. PALM SUNDAY
A rare opportunity is presented to those who wish to publicly profess this faith by being present at the solemn blessing of the palms, to go in procession with the worshipers of the Church and to proclaim to others that we believe in Christ our Savior. This solemn blessing of palms is scheduled for the 10:00 AM Mass this weekend. Our hosannas are not for a fleeting moment for Our Lord, but reflect our commitment to Him in His suffering as we hear the Gospel narrative of His Passion read at all Masses this weekend.

2. MASS OF THE LORD'S SUPPER
On Holy Thursday we recall that the Last Supper was a solemn Sacrificial meal carried out according to ancient Jewish ritual by Christ and His Apostles. It was a time when the Jewish people came together in unity and love to thank God for their deliverance from captivity in Egypt, a solemn moment of prayer commemorating the Passover of the Lord. We too gather together on this evening to thank God for our deliverance from sin, for the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and for the ministry of priesthood. A symbolic act of the Washing of the Feet will be part of the liturgy that evening, a rite reminding us of our role of service to each other as exemplified in the life of Christ, the true Servant.
At the Last Supper, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and asked them to learn to do likewise. Besides being a gesture of humility, this action is sometimes called the “eighth sacrament,” the sacrament of service. The following parishioners have been asked to participate in the foot washing ritual on Holy Thursday: Colleen Mullen, Rose Puleo, Joy Lloyd, Dawn Drahnak, Theresa Smith, Myriam D’Agostini, Donna Cook, Joe Ridgeley, Zack Murphy, Tom Monito, Jack Lykens, Rick Drahnak. Alternates: Julie Kovach & Renee Cook.
The individuals of the parish to have their feet washed are a representation of the various ministries, committees, and sacramental programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until Midnight is prescribed following the Mass of the Last Supper. Every family should spend at least one-half hour in silent adoration, praise, thanksgiving and petition.

3. HOLY THURSDAY
ADORATION SCHEDULE FOR FAMILIES BY ALPHABET LISTINGS
8:30 - 9:00 I-L 9:30 - 10:00 F-H 10:30 - 11:00 M-N 11:30 - 12:00 O-S
9:00 - 9:30 A-B 10:00 - 10:30 T-Z 11:00 - 11:30 C-E

HOLY THURSDAY MEDITATION ON JESUS’ AGONY
Each year following the Holy Thursday Mass we solemnly celebrate a period of prayer and meditation on the Eucharist. It is the night when we go with Christ into the Garden of Olives to pray with him in his agony. Booklets with meditations on Jesus’ Agony in the Garden will be available for all who will be in adoration this Thursday evening. These meditations can greatly aid your personal prayer on this holy night.

GRADE SCHOOL ALTAR SERVERS (GRADES 5, 6, 7 & 8) FOR HOLY THURSDAY PROCESSION
Altar servers in grades 5, 6, 7 & 8 MUST attend the Holy Thursday evening Mass and participate in the special procession with the Blessed Sacrament that is a part of this Mass. Grade 5, 6, 7 & 8 altar servers should report to the parish hall in the basement of the church at 6:30 PM on Thursday evening. We ask parents to cooperate with this request by reminding as well as bringing their child(ren) to church for this special Mass. Although all grade school servers will wear albs, we ask that these altar servers wear dress clothes so that they are appropriately clothed to take part in the solemn procession with the Eucharist.
4. GOOD FRIDAY - A DAY OF FAST AND ABSTINENCE
The Celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday is scheduled for 1:00 PM. If possible many of us should give three hours in church that afternoon or evening, commemorating those hours Christ gave to His suspension on the Cross. These hours are indeed sacred! Remove yourselves from normal hum-drum activities and place yourselves into an atmosphere of prayerful recollection of the reality of Christ's inexhaustible love for you.

5. HOLY SATURDAY AND EASTER VIGIL
At 8:30 PM we will experience the empty tomb of the first Easter giving us new hope and joy. The ceremony of Light will proclaim life beyond the grave, it will carry the message that life is worth living! If we share the Cross and death of Jesus we will be with Him in His triumph in the resurrection. At the Vigil Service and Easter Masses, sentiments of remembering and believing will allow for the conviction in our renewal of baptismal promises that we indeed do belong to the People of God, heirs to His kingdom. We Christians are Easter People.
"All is ready; the community has prayed, fasted, and given alms for 40 days with the Elect. The first two days of the Triduum are past, and the great night of Paschal Memory has arrived...The assembly is gathered, the stories are recounted and the metaphors of salvation once again enchant human ears, alluring us more deeply into a world that is our true home, the world of God's justice.

BLESSING OF EASTER FOOD
For the convenience of families wishing a special blessing upon varied Easter foods, a Saturday blessing at 11:30 AM is scheduled.

STEWARDSHIP OF TALENT - FAITH COMMUNITY
“Charge them to do good, to be rich in good works and generous, sharing what they have.” (1 Tim 6:18) May Timothy’s letter move us to better see how we are using all that the Lord has entrusted to us, especially our talents. This sense of stewardship will help us grow in faith and concern for one another. That’s what faith community is all about.

MEMORIAL FLOWERS
The Church's teaching of the Communion of Saints includes our deceased loved ones, whether in purgatory or heaven. We remember them in varied ways, perhaps best in prayers and the Eucharist. Our thanks to them goes far beyond words. We also demonstrate love and respect for them by the proper use of flowers, both in church and cemetery. It is a most fitting gesture of love for these beloved relatives and friends that we cooperate in the Easter Season adornment of Holy Name Church in their memory. May the Benefactors themselves be richly rewarded by the Lord's special grace.
