PARISH MISSION APRIL 18, 19, 20, 21 - WELCOME,
FR. SCOTT SEETHALER!

love for Jesus. He has done spiritual formation and worked with the poor at the
Catholic Spanish Center in D.C. He served in parishes and taught at Slippery
Rock and Duquesne Universities. Besides parish missions and his radio program,
Joyful Reflections, he has published spiritual books, CDs and DVDs, all
available in the Narthex during the Mission. In 2008, Fr. Scott received the
Archbishop Donald Wuerl Flame of Hope Award for proclaiming the Good News and
for his ministry to the poor at the Anne Seethaler Hospital which he founded in
Oaxaca, Mexico. His spiritual talks appeal to every age group. Let’s pack the

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL
This year, the Catholic Home Missions Appeal turns its focus to youth ministry,
an essential component of the life and vibrancy of the Church. In youth ministry
programs, young Catholics grow in faith and gain valuable leadership skills.
Without this Appeal, poorer dioceses in the United States cannot sustain vital
youth programs. Next week we will take up a collection for this Appeal. Please
be generous and help strengthen the Church at home.
PROPERTY AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE
Having informed our parishioners that a professional evaluation had been
undertaken to determine the possibility of providing better lighting for our
church, be assured that this study has placed before the Committee a
multiplicity of obstacles which were not initially foreseen. Progress toward a
final resolve may be only weeks in the future. Regardless of this replacement of
fixtures and bulbs, this project will be a costly one. Along with the Annual
Catholic Appeal this lighting project will be our Parish Case for 2010.
CATHOLIC MENS CONFERENCE
The 2010 Conference is scheduled for June 12, 2010. We encourage the men of Holy
Name, young and old, to reserve this date on your June calendar. Anticipate
additional information in the weeks that follow.

STEWARDSHIP OF TALENT - LIFE IS FULL OF SURPRISES
Have you been surprised lately? Really surprised. Like the time when you were
asked to teach a religion class and you’d never done that in your life. But you
agreed, you prayed and prepared. And surprise! It really went well. Everyone
affirmed you and the way you led it. When we begin to experiment with the
pathways of God for love and peace and happiness, we discover results that
surprise us because they are so simple.

HOLY NAME SCHOOL PRINCIPAL - RETIREMENT
Miss Meintel has expressed her intent to retire from forty-two years of
committed and dedicated service to Catholic education at Holy Name School both
as teacher and Principal over these more than two scores of years. How blessed
have been the students, parents, pastors and colleagues for her years among us.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude for her skilled leadership and professional
giftedness. She has accepted the desire of the pastor to share her educational
expertise in support of both the 100th Anniversary Celebration in September and
the Middle States evaluation scheduled in October of this year. She will serve
as mentor to the new Principal until the end of October.
A search has been conducted for Miss Meintel’s replacement. It has involved both
external and internal considerations. The qualities in the Job Description for
the new Principal for our Catholic educational institution were easy to define.
Mrs. Robin McMullen, a teacher at Holy Name School for the past twenty-two
years, has been selected as the Principal of our parish school beginning July 1,
2010. She possesses excellent cognitive skills, self confidence, personal
driving force in pursuit of outstanding educational results, imaginative gift of
creativity and a warm personality. She is addressing the credit requirements to
be certified as an elementary school Principal.
This pastor is profoundly and prayerfully grateful to Miss Meintel and Mrs.
McMullen for their long-standing commitment to Catholic education at Holy Name
School. Your daily prayers are requested that our school’s quality achievements
and venerable reputation will remain its legacy for an unlimited number of
future years.

their parents are encouraged to attend the evening sessions. Teachers will

excellent and will be enjoyed by all ages. Family friends are also welcome.

will include a “Decades Party” on April 21. The children are encouraged to dress

special activities and a treat for the students during the day. A flyer
describing the event and offering suggestions for outfits was sent home with the
children.

Way (honorable mention for the poster contest) along with their families have
been invited to the Bishop’s Night for Vocations Dinner in Loretto on April 21.

Generosity: The school children had a jean day on Friday, April 9, to benefit
the Robert Koenig family. Mr. Koenig is recuperating from his latest surgery. He
and his wife, Theresa, have 4 children at Holy Name School. May God bless
everyone for such generous donations to help members of our school family.
Donation: At last week’s Athletic Association meeting, Mr. Jeff Bobroski
presented the association a check for $500. Jeff was one of the winners in a
drawing, at First Commonwealth Bank, which enables the employees who win to
present a check to the organization of their choice. Thank you, Jeff. Your
support and generosity are greatly appreciated.
Registration: Holy Name School is currently receiving registrations for new
students in Grades K-8 and preschool age children for the upcoming 2010-2011
school year. The parental portion of the tuition for Grades K-8 is $810 for the
year. Call the school office at 472-8817 to request registration materials, ask
questions or schedule an appointment to meet with the principal to discuss the
curriculum and tour the school. Students attending Holy Name School come from a
variety of school districts which provide busing, including Penn Cambria,
Blacklick, Portage, Central Cambria, Penns Manor, Cambria Heights and Forest
Hills. Parents of students already attending Holy Name are asked to return your
signed tuition card to register for the 2010-2011 school year. Once again it has
become necessary to place students who wish to enroll in some of the grades on a
waiting list until there is an opening or enough students to divide the class
into two home rooms.
