Is There More to Life Than This?

Yes. No. Maybe. Probably? We all have questions that we want to be answered. Alpha is a series that seeks to answer the deepest questions core to our identity through meal-sharing, prepared talks and open conversation. It’s about discovering, discussing, and finding a place to belong and make friends. Everyone is welcome. No question is too simple, no answer prepared. You’re free to discuss as much [or little] as you wish.

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.

It has been asked “what does a “Holy Name Alpha Course” look like?”

Those people who are attending Alpha for the first time are considered guests.  The guests are broken into small groups of six, seven or eight members.  The grouping is primarily based on the guests’ age.  The groups stay together throughout the course.   Guests are greeted as they enter the eating area.  Each session begins at 6:00 with a meal.  The meal is not different from meals found anywhere, in that underlying sense of friendship and respect, we use the time get to know each other.

After the meal, all groups come together to watch a video emphasizing an area of ones’ faith life.  The small groups rejoin and discuss issues that may have come to the surface.  Hosts are present to keep the conversation going and to provide a safe environment for all to share their ideas.  The session ends by 8:30 each night.

Again, our Alpha has three key things in common: food, a talk, and good conversation.  We start with food because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.  The talks are in video form and are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

When will we meet?

Meetings begin February 21st through May 9th

We meet on Wednesdays each week.  The church basement is reserved on April 11, so that week we will meet on Tuesday, April 10.

There will be a weekend retreat at Saint Francis University. Date to be determined.
